David F. Salter

D ave Salter is an award-winning writer who has authored two previous books. Discouraged by various scandals in NCAA athletics at the time, Salter developed Blueprint for Success (Francis Merrick Publishing, 1993) providing an in-depth analysis of the NCAA scholarship athlete dilemma and how it can be reformed. Later, dismayed over the fact that his three daughters might not have the same opportunities as did he simply because of gender, he penned Crashing the Old Boy’s Network: the Triumphs and Tragedies of Girls and Women in Sports (Praeger Publishers, 1996). This was the first book ever written about this subject and takes a contemporary look at the effects of Title IX and gender equity in all facets of athletics, from youth leagues to college and professional sports.

A fter his second book, he was recruited to write a bi-weekly column about that topic for the York (Pa.) Daily Record, which he did for seven years from 1997 to 2003. He was recognized by the Women’s Sports Foundation in the Miller Lite Women’s Sports Journalism Awards, and has spoken to a number of groups and organizations.

H is story, “Home,” is published in the coffee table anthology, Accidental Magic (Bard Press, 2001). His work also has appeared in USA Weekend, The Record (Hackensack, NJ.), The Colorado Amateur Sports Directory and The NCAA News.

I n 2001, he received the Award for Excellence in Broadcasting from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters for Best Radio Commercial in the state of Pennsylvania for writing his “What Have You Learned Today” radio advertising series, a series that has also won a number of national awards.

H e earned his BA in Journalism from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. He’s completing his tenth year as Director of Public Relations at York College (Pa.) In his spare time he coaches his daughters’ youth soccer, basketball and softball teams. His harem includes his best friend and wife of 15 years, as well as his three active daughters.
